Just wondering what you use...
I've been experimenting with a bunch of effects. I run my Vox right into the mixer and I wasn't really pleased with the sound. I put a slightly unreliable Ibanez TS-9 into the chain, with the drive turned down to 8:00, and that helped warm things up, and I played around with my ancient Dunlop Wah. I was using the board's onboard reverb, which was okay, but not great -- a bit pixellated and slightly shrill.
Anyway, I've been looking for an volume pedal to throw into the chain and a friend of mine lent me his old Digitech RP200. It was not 100% [it would only switch down and not up and I couldn't use the bypass], but I was impressed by some of the effects -- namely some of the delays and chorus and flanger -- so I bought an RP250 toady, figuring I could also use it for guitar.
I'm actually quite impressed with it. Some of the reverb settings are a bit sterile, but te delays are quite good and the amp modelling is excellent [Blues2 seems to work the best to my ears]... and I get a volume pedal and a wah without a noisy pot. The rotary sim in pretty good, too. It's not top-o-line stuff, but it's very workable. Pretty good deal, actually -- and it's big and heavy and doesn't dissapear under my rig...

Funny you should ask because I just tried my Elka through my Digitech RP-80 two nights ago. It was the same with me. The rotary effect was OK. But I really liked it through an amp sim with spring reverb and chorus. I have not really messed with the thing that much because I am a worse guitar player than on keyboards (and not anything to write home about on keys either). But the RP-80 is quite small and has an expression pedal that will blend well under your Vox. It should look right at home.
At Musician's Friend the RP-80 shows up as discontinued. That means they will be cheap as dirt second hand. Worth trying out if you see one cheap.
I was running the Elka through a Korg KP-2 Kaos Pad. Mostly just for the spring reverb, though there are other cool things that it will do. It seems to me that combo organs and guitar amp/effects just sort of go together.

RP80s seem to be going for $20-$30 on eBay. It was replaced by the RP90, which looks like it's exactly the same thing. To be honest, I'm pretty impressed by what digitech has done with these multi-effects pedals. I had a Korg AX10G for my guitar that I sold last fall, and it wasn't anywhere near as good.

This seems like a good topic for a conversation guys. What effects does anyone else use and why?

I use a Danelectro Daddy-O overdrive with my YC-20, both as a boost and to give it a bite when I go for that boost.
Oh...And I like to use a Dunlop GCB-81, an active volume pedal, in the chain, as well.

What about chorus effects, are they of any use to give some richness to the sound (I mainly play Combo Compacts on flutes/ATB)?

If you get something that you find useful, then it's...well...useful! Thanks for stopping by. I use a Ibanez TS9 for the solos on my Elka Panther, but I got that big "breath" which sounds quite bad
do you know what should I use as a distortion for my organ?

In addition to the RP-80 that I mentioned above I have also used a Korg Kaos pad KP-2 (the silver one) with my Panther. It has a nice distortion that can be used in small doses to good effect. There is also a really crap spring reverb that is bad in a good way. All subjective opinion BTW.

I don't have none original volume pedals with all of my organs so I use that pedal for the volume (it's italian!) works well w/ my guitar too you can select your "zero" volume (not necessarily mute)

Hi
When I had my WEM Telstar, I used a guitar chorus pedal, with just a very slight amount of chorus dialed in - just enough to take the sterile edge off the sound, but not enough to really notice unless you switched the effect off. Adding more chorus might also be effective in some situations.
Every Blessing

It all depends on how it is wired.

...does a Leslie count as an effect? I've experimented with a couple different solid-state Leslies on combos, with interesting results. I've tried my Yamaha YC10 through a "Proline" Leslie 760, and was amazed at how much of (what I consider to be) the classic "Combo" sound was actually lost! It sounded much more Hammond-like through the 760. Then, again with the YC10, I tried it through a pair of Leslie 60s (made for electric piano)... the effect was, well, beautiful! Again, not a description (or sound!) I'd normally associate with combo organs, but it really did give an amazingly lush, spacious effect. Similarly, I've tried my Fender Contempo through a) a Peavey bass amp (TKO65) and b) the Leslie 60s -- the Contempo has dual outputs, bass & treble -- and oddly enough the Leslie 60s didn't shine the way they did with the Yamaha. Still sounded good, but the chorus effect wasn't quite as rich. I wonder if a Motion Sound setup wouldn't be ideal for the Contempo: you know, separate cabs/channels for the bass and horn rotors (not familiar with all the model #s). Anybody else tried a combo+Leslie, er... combo?
