Hey everybody- it's Justin from Oakland California. I've been playing and, quite frankly, destroying Farfisas (is the plural Farfeces....?) on stage since I saw a boot-legged Mummies video in 1994. I've played in a bunch of garage R&B bands that include the Dukes of Hamburg (guitar) and Harold Ray Live in Concert (organ). I own two Farfisa Compacts, a Vox Continental and a Tiesco Trescord C (I think- I haven't looked at it for a while). I've also got a Hammond M3 and a Leslie 125 (borrowed) at the practice space.
At heart I'm really an amp guy. In fact, I make my living designing circuits and overseeing the US manufacturing facility for VHT amplifiers (www.vhtamplifier.com). The access that I have to lab equipment makes it easy to fix my own stuff, but the lack of time makes it difficult. Same old story, huh?
What else- I have a daughter that just turned two. I think she's going to be a drummer.

mtwallet- Thanks. Yeah- I miss seeing Russell every week for practice. It was tons of fun.
Karl. I don't know about keyboard or combo-organ products from VHT, but I will share some observations I've made by playing organs through various amps. In my experience a Leslie is the best sounding amp for any organ- hands down. Match made in heaven's own soul party. That said, they're a pregnant dog to move and still expensive. Even the great Leslie style products by Motion Sound or Speakeasy are more expensive and harder to move than the inevitable guitar amp you or you're band-mate has laying around. The drawback is that most Fender/ Marshall / Vox tone controls are not "full frequency range". They all have a dip in the mid-range which we've all come to expect to hear for a guitar, but leaves something to be desired for an organ. Also- if you're not pushing somehing close to 100 Watts- you will probably sacrifice bass response. I tend to look for amps that have the James style tone circuits that have a flat frequency response like my Magnatone 260 and Silvertone 1484. Still not the best low end response, but they fit in the hatchback without help.

Hey-this thing edited my use of "b i t c h"................ funny.

Hi Justinn, I agree as I have a 122 in the basement, however synths don't translate too well, and I just hate moving it. I have tried lots of stuff one of the best was a Sansui tube stereo at 100 watts. Currently I use a Crown PA amp with full range speaker. I just thought (more like hoped) someone would make a tube amp for us keyboard players. Lately the Traynor K4 is making a big splash as one of the only with tubes.

Beerwolf- yeah! the Jinxes- = awsome. We need to get my new band the Shangorillas to play in EL Lay.
Karl- I'll have to check out the K4. The Motion Sound stuff seems to work well with the tube pre-amps. They get that Leslie growl. Part of the Leslie secret is the cut in the highs without cutting the high-frequency harmonics. Though maybe it's to Doppler effect that softens the highs. Just thinking out loud here now.
Thanks guys!

Welcome Justin, I have a K4 and I love it. Good news that your daughter is going to be a drummer. As long as she is making all that noise you will know where she is and what she is doing!
