Does anyone have suggestions for a portable organ that is close in sound to a Wurlitzer electric organ? I recorded an album using a big Wurlitzer organ and now I'd like to recreate the sound onstage with something else vintage. But the Wurlitzer is way too big to lug around. The sound doesn't have to be exact--but something warm, slightly loungey, with character, and not too much like a jazz organ. I could really use some help with this!
Thanks!

Hi there. If you're talking about the Wurlitzer organs I THINK you're talking about, I may have a few suggestions.
If you're looking for something on the cheap side, look into the Lowrey Wandering Genie, aka the L2. I think I've seen them cheap, between $100 and $200. There is actually a little bit of info on the web so google it. There's even a Wikipedia page.
On the slightly pricier side are the later model Farfisa models, the VIP series. These seem to have a rounder more square wave sound to them. I think I've seen these go from $200 to $500 on the ebay, but if you can find one locally, you may be able to get it cheaper. Generally, though, these models are the cheaper of the Farfisa family.
Right now on ebay there's VIP 500 I think, that the dude is asking $1900. Seriously, that seller is on crack. You can get one for WAY less just about anywhere.
Finally, one of the members here actually chops console organs into portables...there's some stuff in the "pictures" section. Maybe you can hire him to cut a Wurly down for you.
