I'm new to this forum, but I have been collecting combo organs and console organs for years now. It's an obsession. Anyway, I recently purchased a red Yamaha YC-20 off of Craigslist for $300 +$100 in shipping. I paid him by money order sent certified mail, thinking this would insure some amount of security. The organ never came to me. The seller gave me an invalid tracking number, but I was out of town at the time and didn't realize the number was wrong until I got back. I have his FULL NAME, PHONE NUMBER, ADDRESS, PHOTOGRAPH, AND EMAIL ADDRESS. I also know what his facebook page is and his myspace. I don't know if I'll ever see this organ, but I very much wanted the reliable YC-20 to supplement my Farfisa when it wasn't working. First of all, let this be a warning to everyone to be more careful than I was. Only pay by paypal. Does anyone have an idea of how to go about getting this guy? Do the police care?

I'm assuming you've called him repeatedly and contacted him via email, snailmail, Facebook, and MySpace.
Since you've paid him w/a money order via certified mail, I also assume that you have the postal receipt for the money order. With all of this, I'd think you have enough to go to the police.
That said, why not ask people here and on the ComboOrgan YahooGroup if they live near to wherever this guy is? Perhaps someone would be willing to go find out something about the organ.

They guy lives in Ames Iowa, and said he was going on tour. Supposedly he was having his sister send the organ for him. His phone goes straight to voice mail and of course he's not answering his emails. It could all be a misunderstanding. He could be out of the country with his phone out of service range. His "sister" could have sent him an incomplete tracking number. Since he's got so many ties to his community in Iowa, I find it hard to believe he would deliberately try to scam me. On the other hand, he could be scamming me and just not be very smart about it. Either way, I'm currently apprehensive about calling the law because of the chance he may not be a crook.

Is there any way to figure out his sister's email/address/phone? (For instance, she may be his friend on Facebook.) How long has it been since this you sent the payment?

You may also want to tell this story on the ComboOrgan group and tell people where the person is. It could well be that someone will live near the guy and can find something out.

Unless he accepts me as a friend on facebook I can't peruse his friends. There does not appear to be a sister on myspace unless she's changed her last name.
ComboOrgan group? Is that another site? An interesting thought, and somewhat the reason I posted on here. I'm formulating multiple plans and hoping one will get the organ to its rightful owner, (me), as soon as possible.

Unless this is a misunderstanding you will not ever see this organ.
NEVER EVER send money on a Craigslist purchase out of state. Craigslist is not Ebay. It is intended to be like a local ad in a newspaper (remember those?). The only time I did an out of state transaction on Craigslist I was SELLING and he paid me by PayPal. He took the leap of faith and had some coverage with PayPal if things had gone bad and I was a scammer.
Now you may have to pursue legal action to resolve the issue.
Keep us posted on what steps you are taking. I would suggest sending a letter to the supposed address that requests a return receipt. In other words, he has to sign for the letter. that could help you document that you are trying to resolve the matter. Another thing you could try is to see if there is a TV reporter there in Iowa that goes and investigates scams. Maybe scare something loose that way.
I dunno. It could be that you are just burned. I hope he is just on tour...

The Combo Organ group is at groups.yahoo.com/group/ComboOrgan/It's an email discussion list that I started some 10 years ago. (About a year afterwards, I handed off the moderator mantle to Robert MacNutt, who also operates Combo Organ Heaven at http://www.combo-organ.com)

The organ showed up... a happy ending to a potentially sad story.

Good news!
Was it in the shape you hoped it would be?

Hi
I got ruled over by a Guy called Chris Snow. He's a bit around on most discussion groups/forums. I am still on his track and can't wait to board a plane and knock on his front door. This guy owes me either 2000 $ or a Gib G101... nutsehead!!!
