probably the main songs for me are the animals,. 96 tears, double shot of my babys love. liar liar, midnight confessions, and incense and peppermints.
our high school piano class actually had a bunch of vox organs, they were made for learning on, i think they were only 3 octaves but did have the reversed black and white keys, and red cases. halfway through the year they threw them away and replaced them with brand new $100 casios.
then of course it was the mummies. the mummies brought it home to me that you had to have an electric organ for that sound, and nothing else would do. i always had various keyboards around and old spinets, but the combo organ became of more interest when i joined a local garage band and purchased the guitar player farfisa compact deluxe for $400. having owned dozens of keys over the years and even junky pianos, it was my first real instrument, the first time i ever spent over $100 on a keyboard.
i had to get it because i was beating the nuts out of it in the band anyways and didnt want to feel bad if i broke it, plus, having played it all the time i knew exactly how it worked and sounds and knew i would be satisfied with it as an instrument.
chopping spinets started for me before i got the farfisa, as a sort of challenge and hobby. it was a nessecity born out of poorness and the conviction that nothing but an organ would do for the band i was in at the time.
once you decide that you need an organ on stage, and if you dont have alot of money, the choices are either to carry around a full sized spinet, or break out the saws and tool box and chop the f**ker down to the size one person can carry and doesnt take up an entire van by itself.
