Hello combo nation,
I live in Milwaukee and am intensely interested in combo organs. I recently joined a band here in Wisconsin playing organ because the band leader had a Nord electro in his possession. I was quite happy with the versatility of the instrument, mostly for the Hammond sound which is something I've never had access to. Starting on this board was benificial to me because I own a fender rhodes mark 1 and am quite familiar with the electric piano, this eased the transition somewhat into organ.
However, the bandleader had to return the Nord to the owner who he was borrowing it from, this was heart breaking. Yet, it started me on my quest to find my own axe. I began my research to find an acceptable organ in my price range. My first thought was to find a beater of a italian combo and fix it up, preferably a farfisa. I search hi and low here in wisconsin with no luck whatsoever. I have very little experience with eBay and I didn't want to spend money on a board I couldn't test drive first. So in the meantime I was able to play my friends Elka Panther duo 300, which was a blast while it lasted. Eventually I found a used digital Korg cx3 in which to replace the Nord. I couldn't be happier with it. I know it's not categorized as a combo organ but it's the coolest thing I've owned to date. It has a continental sound programed in that I really enjoy(I've only heard the real thing once or twice so I have very little to compare it to)
Eventually I'd like to get myself a real Farfisa, but the collector prices today are too rich for me. I did find a friend willing to get rid of his Farfisa compact deluxe but the bottom 18 keys dont work and I'm not positive it'd be worth the headache to fix
I am still very much interested in getting one some day. I also have to add that info I found on this site has both interesting and educational for me and my quest. Apparently I really like reading people's opinions about combos. It's a rewarding hobby.
So hello to you all. I hope to have pictures up soon of my cx3 and my buddies elka..
Thanks again combo nation.
