I was wondering which one of these organs is the best sounding and with the best available options IMO, this keyman guy with the YC-20 as the best of both world? do you agree? I have played alot of these organs in my younger ! dazed! and many others in my life-spread as a musician, for a fact the YC-20 as more mooddy sound than the Vox,Farfisa with the best option available only on the YC-20 was" TOUCH VIBRATO" was by Yamaha? aint that a slap behind the head for VOX/FARFISA/Jaguar... and the 3 mentioned all sound alike. Only people who can reply to this thread are those who have experiment with these kind of organs and who wants to debate and chit chat and ear all these interesting stories on how these organ made a difference in the 60s,70s cheesy era.

....there`s alot of people on this site and no response? ummm! whats going on ;D Well, I can't comment because I have not owned one of every kind of organ ever made. Haven't been that rich or inclined. But the guys who do have that kind of experience are lucky! I always had the letch for the YC-45D. Very sexy looking machine.

the YC-45 is very nice looking, one thing though! its too heavy to bring on gigs or even bring anywhere and the YC-20 is more portable and cooler looking than any of the YC family its closest to the Vox than any other organ made! ummm.... anyways.

Well...I haven't owned one of every model combo that's ever been created, but I own quite a few different models and have owned many others over the years. I own two different Vox Continentals - and owned another one once - as well as a Jaguar, and I also own a few YC-20s. I prefer the YC-20 over the Vox. I think it's more versatile. And the sounds are excellent. However, it should be mentioned that what organ you prefer is very much a personal choice. In addition, it will depend on what you're trying to accomplish. For instance, for my garage-rock oriented projects, I like the YC-20. (Although if I'm only doing a recording project, there are instances where I might choose a Farfisa Combo Compact. But that would only be for a couple songs, as I'm usually more interested in the sounds the YC-20 has to offer and, as I said, it's extremely versatile.) On the other hand, if I'm going for a slower, dronelike kinda thing, the YC-30's Fuzz tab can really make things work. For the organ sounds in The Coal Gems - www.myspace.com/thecoalgems - the YC-30 was the perfect choice. I don't own a YC-10 or a YC-45D (though I'd like to at some point), but I do have the YC-20, YC-25D, and YC-30. I find the YC-30 to have a "cleaner" sound than the YC-20. (Unless, of course, I've got the Fuzz tab on.) But for regular tones, the YC-20 just sounds better (to me) for garage rock/60s stuff. For lighter weight pop-psych, I can see things like the Ace Tone Top-5 or a Whitehall 6640. I think Violet Vector & her Lovely Lovelies make excellent use of the latter.

Cheer`s Was this in response to me? I'm a huge fan of garage rock and garage punk. I've been listening to that stuff since at least my late teens (early to mid-80s). I even spent the entire 90s doing a fanzine devoted to it. And I have two garage-rock bands: The Miscreants and The Emby Confection (actually more of an occasional recording project than a band). My point was that different organs can be suited to different types of music. (The same is true for guitars, but I'll let the guitarists handle this part of it.) As to all bands being garage/basement...Well, that may be where they practice, but as far as genres go - and I know many people don't like classifications, but they do give a rough guide to where someone's musical head is at - "garage rock" and "garage punk" - are simply a musical description, as much as terms like "psychedelic", "bubblegum", and "punk".

I owned a Farfisa for probably ten years, have played Continentals, and currently have a YS-20. Here's my take:
I loved the sound of the Farfisa--it whined beautifully and really stood out. On the other hand, it was really noisy, featured hard-to-clean silver-plated key contacts that oxidized rapidly, and was a complete pain in the butt to open up and work on (which it seemed like I was ALWAYS doing), and contained a spaghetti-like maze of wire, transistors, resistors, and other electronic components.
I've always had a soft spot for Continentals. There's just something so sexy about those reversed keys and they always seem to sound just right. I would still like to own one just to say that I have one, but . . .
I recently scored a Yamaha YS-20 for $4.95 at a local pawnshop--yup, I paid less than I would for a set of guitar strings. I love it. It can does a convincing Farfisa sound and does a GREAT Vox sound--plus it can do much, much more. The thing I like most is the way it's put together--the top hinges open and all electronics are easily accessible. Need to clean the key contacts? Undo two screws and the entire keyboard hinged upward to provide easy access to the contacts.
