I just want to register a complaint at having to specify "gender" to log-in to this board. It's not that the idea of speficying my sex is all that irksome, but "gender?" Hell, the question asks for my gender, but the pop-up doesn't allow me to select it. The options are "male" and "female," which are not genders, but SEXES.
Let me make this completely clear to everyone -- including the people who wrote the software for this site -- who has no idea what the word "gender" actually means...
GENDER IS NOT A POLITE WORD FOR SEX!!!
Gender means the culturally determined difference between the sexes -- how sex is culturally marked, what roles and attributes are assigned to the sexes.
Male and female are not acceptable answers for the question "what is your gender." Acceptable answers would be masculine or feminine... or "really manly," "butch," "nell," "girly," "indeterminate," or "just one of the guys."
Just wanted to get that off my manly, hairy chest.

I wondered what that was about also. It popped up at the Fusion forum as well.
