I just got my Philicorda GM 754, and I'm cleaning it now. Warning: the light brown varnishing on the area surrounding the controls rubs off easily. Anyone got hints on how to restore it?

Cleaning up the GM754 was a lot easier than I expected. After pulling off the casing top and sides I removed a couple of screws from the sides & bottom. After this the front control panel could be pulled off and laid to rest on top of the organ to gain better access to the keys. The keyboard is hinged in the rear, making it easy to lift the front and clean up the contacts underneath. The wire contacts on each key seem sturdy and unlikely to bend too easily. The key contact, however, is a bit too sensitive to my taste: the slightest slip of a finger when playing easily results in an unwanted note. About the sound: it is cleaner and more "lifeless" than earlier Philicordas, but far from modern! I like it a lot. The problem is, the GM754 doesn't sound that different from many other cheap 70's organs, so I wouldn't recommend paying too much for one.

Hello! I own a Philicorda 752. all the F# in my phili are not working. They sound really low (almost can't hear them). The dividers work because they have different frequencies depending on the octave you play it in, and the vibrato and the Voxs apply. Does anyone knows a solution to this? I looks pretty simple but i dont know much about reading the schematic...does anyone can help? Thanks a lot Regards!

Can anyone tell me how to REMOVE the legs of a Philicorda? They seem pretty happy stuck in their holes at the moment. Is there some release button, or simple brute force required?? Thanks in advance!

No idea if this board is still active, but it is one of the few that I have found where somebody has managed to open the GM754. I've owned this since around 1979, although it was out of my hands for several years. Now back with me and working, but I have 2 notes that are a problem: lowest D is sticking; high E sounds only now and then (irrespective of touch used). I have removed the base and sides, but can't see how to get at the keyboard workings without completely dismantling. If anybody can help/post photos I would be very grateful.

Hi, I need to open my Philicorda GM 754 to clean the key contacts. Some of the keys only sound intermittently, and you need to press them quite hard. So I guess it's dirty contacts. The thing is, I have already tried contact cleaner. I unscrewed the 3 bolts underneath, but the keybed won't come out. There's qyuite a maze of electronics in there, I can't see how to get access to under the keys. Does anyone know? There's nothing about this on the internet, at least I can't find anything

Hi,
I have a problem with some keys on my recently bought 754 Philicordia. There are 6 of them who are not working proparly. If I push them normally there can be heard no sound, if I push the with power and longer they would. Can somebody of this meetingboard explain what I have to do to overcome this? Thank you in advance for the help. With kindly regards, Bart.

I have post the message of the 19th of March 2024. If there is anyone who has knowledge and/or experience with keys who has to push hard before sound is created please contact me on postbschmitz@protonmail.com. Thanks in advance. Bart.

If you are still struggling drop me an email michaelpe2402@gmail.com and I'll try to take you through how I did it. I've still got a handful of dead notes and vox buttons though...I've got no idea how to sort them

A quick update.
Getting into the keyboard really isn't tough. Don't remove the legs, basically... Take the top and sides off, remove the two recessed screw visible through the holes in the side of the keyboard body (where the panels were)....then remove the screw that keeps the front facia attached to the keyboard box (where the electronic wizardry is).
Remove the three screws on the underside that keeps the key bed in place. You can now lift the facia with the sliders and vox buttons onto the top of the keyboard box and you can lift the keyboard from the bed.
To remove individual keys...wire nose pliers to remove the springs, then just slide them out. You need to put them back in order so mark them up first before removing them if you aren't sure.
You can now get at the cats whiskers (contacts) and the tone bar.
I've managed to get mine cleaned up but I've nowt got a weak distorted output signal...which is clearly an electronic component issue and beyond my knowledge how.
If anyone wants photos of a dismantled 754 please contact me on michaelpe2402@gmail.com or reply on here. Thanks
