hey... i'm new not only to combo organs, but to message boards all together. i have a VIP 345 and a wurlitzer 200A. i'm really looking to build my collection, but am unfortunately a bit of a starving artist, plus i can never seem to find them anywhere else than ebay or something, which has little appeal to me. i'm up for all kinds of suggestions, including where to find organs, types that are especially good (and lesser known), and tips on how to fix them. holla.

Welcome! You need to check at thrift stores, yard sales, and maybe some local music store that deals in used gear (if they haven't all been put under by Guitar Center ). Another thing that I would suggest is to take it slow. Gear Acquisition Syndrome (G.A.S.) can lead to making unwise buys of crap gear that is useless and sometimes, worthless. Do some research and ask lots of questions before getting something. We are here to help

yeah, boot sales, second hand shops are your first choice where to look; ebay's good but there are so may people out there with more cash than you have, that's it's no longer *that* good...
Also think about this; how many hands have you got? One man can only play so many keys with 10 fingers at once (no offence Blair!) ;o).

If you ever have any advice on restoring the 200a, let me know... its a struggle to tune up those reeds. For some good products check out www.vintagevibe.com . They stock stuff you will most likely need!

Also think about this; how many hands have you got? One man can only play so many keys with 10 fingers at once (no offence Blair!) ;o). jm ;D 'Tis verily true. And no offense taken. Personally, I got my original bunch at the rate of 1-2 a year in the late 80s, early 90s, when things were VERY cheap, compared to now. After about '93, I don't think I bought another organ for another 8 years, at least. And then it started all over again. Really, it comes in fits and starts for me. The months from October or so of last year through February, I think, of this year were VERY good to me, though. I got 5-6 vintage keyboards, all organs except the RMI Electra-Piano and harpsichord that came in a trade for a Line6 pedal I didn't much care for. The thing about what I buy is, I do not spend a ton of money. The most I ever spent on a keyboard was on the Wurlitzer 200A (with legs and sustain pedal) that I got shipped to me (in NJ) from Florida for $575. (Found that one on the Harmony Central Gear Classifieds.) But that beat the next closest - a Gibson G201 (obviously complete with amp, bench, and volume pedal) for $400. I've since sold that one - which I regret - but the deal was VERY good for me. It made me feel better about having spent $400 on the organ in the first place. After that, though, everything's been $350 or less. I even got a Whitehall 6640 for $40. Complete working condition, with legs. My suggestion: Craigslist. It also helps if you can travel to the hinterlands, rather than just sticking in a metro area. And a car helps.
