When I got into a band later I got hold of a Crumar toccata Karl - I, too, have a Toccata. I love it! Yeah, I know it doesn't fit a strict definition of "combo organ", but it's got some great sounds. At one point, I actually got a second one, but my friend Andy loved the sound so much I sold it to him, since I already had one.

Can you put some pictures up of the Toccata? I have never seen one. I don't have pics of mine handy, but here's a link to one on Craigslist Buffalo. And, here's another from the Matrix Synth blog. The Toccata has 8 presets. It's kinda Hammond-like in sound. It also has some Percussion voices, as well as a rudimentary Leslie effect.

Hey Blair, Cool, you have a Toccata also. The salesman who sold it to me recomended that it be used as a portable chuch organ. It has a church organ quality to it, and I did play a wedding or two with it but most of the time I put some sort of distortion pedel on it (Tube distortion if possible) and wow now it's a Deep Purple/ Stepenwolf time. I got hold of the schematics for it ( from MTI in New York), so if you ever need them let me know, and Ill dig them out and scan em in. Man, you have a way cool collection of organs, must be nice.

Any recommendations?

Hi Blair,
I remember using a PROCO RAT, Or Ibeneze For A while. I also used an Electro Harminix Small Stone, & DOD flanger for fun, but the best ever was a Marshall M9000 Tube Guitar Preamp. It has three stages of tube distortion + an equalizer. It provided the best stepenwolf sound without getting a tube powered Leslie. Very narly tone.
