(Well, the Farfisa isn't new, but you get what I'm going for here... )
Hello everyone! I recently picked up my first combo organ, a Farfisa Compact.
A bit of background info: just short of a year ago, I came across a grey Farfisa Compact at a local-ish music store, with a price of $199 on it. I knew little about them at the time, and had recently gotten burned paying $300 for an analog synthesizer which didn't work, so I didn't go for it. After talking to a friend who knew more about keyboard instruments than I did, I went back a few days later, cash in hand, only to find a tag on it reading "SOLD." I spent the next few days searching eBay and CraigsList looking for another one, but nothing presented itself as a possibility, so I let it go.
Fast forward to a couple of days ago: I was roaming the maze-like aisles of the NEAR-Fest amateur radio swap-meet in Deerfield, NH, looking for good deals on ham radio gear. While mulling over the possible purchase of a mobile transceiver, I wandered around the grounds searching for an ATM to bolster my wallet. After cutting across a central meeting area, what should I spot but a familiar-looking red organ...
Another Farfisa had found me! ;D
I asked the seller how much he wanted for it, and he responded with an offer of $50. Sold! The seller helped me haul it back to my car, which was nice. It's in rough shape, and has a few issues (which I'll relay in a post in the Tech Support forum once I know more about them), but for that price, I figured I'd done pretty good. Plus, none of the issues are major, so with any luck, I'll have better luck fixing it than I've had with the previously-mentioned analog synthesizer...
Anyhoo, it's great to find a community of people interested in these old plastic/tolex monstrocities. It may be cheesy as all get-out, but I like cheesy. Currently, I have mine sitting next to my Optigan, another odd musical instrument of mine. Pics available here and here.
