Hey all... With The Plateau Phase in a sort of hiatus [our bass player is a nuclear engineer who's on an on-site assignment in Western Pennsylvania... let's call him Homer], I've been focusing more on my side recording project, A Perfect Vacuum. Yes, I'm a Stanislaw Lem fan, and after going through a whole lot of possible names -- The Peoples Commissariat of Sound, Dopamine Cascade, etc. -- I found a name that I can live with. Anyway, the project began with two purposes: 1. As a catch-all for all of those songs that just didn't fit with The Plateau Phase, and 2. As an umbrella to experiment with ambient electronica. Because of my dissertation research, I've been listening to more and more experimental/minimalist electronic music of the 1960s, and I find myself being pulled in that direction. Anyway, there's a bunch of new and new-ish stuff on my MySpace page: at www.myspace.com/aperfectvacuum . Some includes the sound of my Vox Jaguar organ, some features the sound of (gasp) ROMpler organ patches -- I hope you won't be offended. The new(ish) tracks include: City of Collective Memory Prime Numbers (an homage of sorts to Terry Riley) Pericalypsis (a recently re-mix) Give a listen and tell me what you think. If you are a MySpacer, please friend me.

I'm glad you like it. I have some more music to share. I took some time this weekend to finish up some of those projects that I always have hanging around unfinished. My plan is to produce a modest CD this winter entitled "Rheya's Ghost." (For those of you who aren't SF nerds, Rheya is Kris Kelvin's dead lover in Stanislaw Lem's novel Solaris. The title track is up on my MySpace page: www.myspace.com/aperfectvacuum). It's entitled "Rheya's Ghost" (naturally) and it's pretty dark (naturally). It doesn't feature any combo organ, I'm afraid. I should also warn you that the MySpace encoder seems to have added a tiny bit of staticky noise. Anyone else have problems with this? The other track is "Ellipsis" (actually, since it's one of four ellipses, it's technically "First Ellipsis"). It's much more gentle than usual, since I plan to use the ellipses to break up sections on the CD. In theory, all four make up one, distributed piece. Since MySpace limits me to four tracks, you can find "Ellipsis" at my SoundClick pace: soundclick.com/share?songid=7067923... And keeping things on topic here, it features my my Vox Jaguar.
